The surgery, which takes only a few minutes, can correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. Within one day, the patient can return to their normal activities-without the aid of corrective lenses.

One patient whose vision went form 20/40 to 20/15 after the LASIK procedure told her story in Entertainer magazine: "It marked the beginning of my new life-I would no longer miss a sunset or the delicate details of a flower because I failed to have my contacts in." Glenn Kawesch Laser and RK Eye Center, located in La Jolla, was the first center in San Diego exclusively dedicated to repairing vision through refractive surgery. His center was also one of the first in the United States to introduce new scanning and tracking laser technology.

Among the numerous awards that Dr. Glenn Kawesch has received, Dr. Steve Trokel, one of the inventors of the Excimer Laser, recently named him one of the top VISX surgeons in the United States for performing the greatest number of surgeries far, far exceeding peers.

Sue LoGuercio, director of patient education at the Laser and RK Eye Center, describes Glenn Kawesch as tireless. "If we were willing to work weekends," she says, "the center would be open seven days a week. He loves the satifaction from knowing that he is helping to change people's lives in a positive way."

Some notable patients touched by Glenn Kawesch's work include San Diego Mayor Susan Golding, Channel * sportscaster Ted Leitner, Channel 8 anchorman Graham Ledger, Padres first baseman Wally Joyner and Star 100.7's Mark jagger. Dr. Glenn Kawesch also donates to charitable organizations such as the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

Joseph Haroldsen, clinical supervisor at the center, says, "I've worked in the care-giving profession for years, and not everybody takes an interest in [caring for people as Kawesch does."
