"My hands were swelled. They were so cold I couldn't hold onto the ball," said Reynolds, who was also troubled by stomach problems that caused him to vomit twice at halftime and again after the game.

He had an array of eye-popping moves and head-snapping tackles, as well as the game's lone interception from his linebacker position. Reynolds was credited with 21 tackles in all.

"Isn't he amazing?" said senior lineman Alex Verlanic. "Some of the moves he makes, some of the cuts, how he explodes ... I think he's looking better than he's ever looked."

"He's playing as well as he's ever played," agreed Drummond coach Jim Oberweiser. "There were two or three times on those runs when he's stumbling and he's fumbling and he's getting a hand down. They just couldn't knock him off his feet."

He scored his fifth touchdown (and 12th in six quarters) near the end of the first half on a 35-yard burst. It put him over the 200-yard mark for the first time as a Trojan and started the "fast clock" running by giving Drummond a 36-0 point lead.

With the clock stopping only occasionally, each team ran just three series in the second half. That was enough time for quarterback Cody Alt to score the lone non-Reynolds touchdown for Drummond on a fourth-down sneak that turned into a 44-yard sprint, and for Reynolds to tack on his sixth TD from 14 yards out.

Stanford, a 44-6 victim of the Trojans in last year's championship game on the same field, saved face with a 12-yard TD pass from Seth Wildung to Zach Smith as time ran out. That culminated an impressive drive against Drummond's first-string defense that started on the Wolves' own 7-yard line.

As it has most of the season, Stanford played with two senior stars hobbled. Wildung is putting off knee surgery until after basketball season. He ran with the ball just twice and didn't play defense, but threw well in the cross winds.

Stanford's best weapon was junior Tanner Kelly, who shook off a vicious collision with Drummond's Clay Cantrell on a kickoff in the first half to catch an 18-yard pass from Wildung three plays later.

"Stanford played tougher than nails," Oberweiser said. "We knew they were going to be tough and big up front, strong up front. Our hats are off to Stanford. We were able to break a couple of big runs and just control the clock."

Kirby said before the game he didn't expect the Wolves to be shocked and awed at Drummond early, as they were last year. They took the opening kickoff, gained two first downs and made it to the Drummond 18 before Petey Carillo and Reynolds teamed to stop Kelly on fourth down.

It didn't take long. On Drummond's third snap, Reynolds swung to the right sideline on a dive, zig-zagged three times downfield and scored the first TD from 45 yards out with 7:56 left in the first quarter.

He high-stepped through Luke Wildung's attempted tackle on the corner in the 21-yarder. On the 29-yarder he made a jump cut on an end sweep, and later cut again to his left to score standing up.

His 62-yard run drew the most oohs. Reynolds crashed through the line but almost lost his footing 10 yards into the secondary. At near full speed, he broke his fall with his hand, kept his legs moving to regain his balance and jetted the rest of the way unscathed.

All that overshadowed other heroics by the Trojans. Cody Baker blocked a punt and kept constant pressure on Wildung. He finished with nine tackles. Carillo and Tyrel Cochrell, playing linebacker with Reynolds, wreaked havoc on both run and pass plays and had four and 10 stops, respectively.

Notes: Drummond's 34th consecutive victory, dating back to the first game of the 2003 season, moved the Trojans into a tie for fifth on the all-time Montana list with fellow eight-man football powers Scobey and Wibaux. ... The championship game kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. ... Kelly also led Stanford on defense with 15 stops. ... Reynolds' top rushing game before Saturday was his 10-carry, 183-yard day last week against Chinook.
