Big shakeup at CNN: Anderson Cooper, one of the breakout stars of Hurricane Katrina coverage, will become the sole anchor of the 10 p.m. weekday newscast on CNN, reports the trade journal TV Week. Aaron Brown will leave the news network he joined in 2001.
Cooper, who like Brown is an alumnus of ABC News, joined CNN as a weekend anchor in December 2001 and became anchor of "Anderson Cooper 360" from 7 to 8 p.m. weekdays in March 2003.
It's babble from Babs! TV's "Extra" (7:30 p.m., WWJ-TV, Channel 62) got Barbra Streisand to spout on several subjects in a two-part (!) report airing tonight and Friday. Stand back and listen up!
On the pressures of plastic surgery in Hollywood: "I really do need my eyes done, I must say. They're hanging down. I'd do the minimum I could possibly get away with."
On political overtones in her song, "Stranger in a Strange Land," she comments, "It's really about supporting our troops who are fighting in my opinion a senseless war."
On meeting husband James Brolin: "I saw a guy with his head shaved off, no beard. I just said hello and then disappeared until I had to sit down next to him at dinner." Her longtime assistant was on hand to take her home, but Brolin offered to take her instead. Streisand says, "I hadn't had a man say that to me, 'I'm taking you home.' I really liked that."
Rapper 50 says he disagrees with rapper Kanye West's infamous statement that "George Bush doesn't care about black people," proclaimed during a September telethon for Hurricane Katrina victims.
"I think people responded to it the best way they can," 50 told ContactMusic.com . "What Kanye West was saying, I don't know where that came from."
TVGuide.com's Michael Ausiello says the reality TV producer-guru Mark Barnett "basically told me that the rumors are true," and that Probst will leave after next spring's 12th incarnation of the show.
Proving that rumors are just truths whose time is yet to come -- and therefore always true -- Burnett also confirmed that the host spot will be filled by a former female "Survivor" survivor, as yet unnamed.
Citing a forthcoming British GQ story, MSNBC.com says Ozzy's decidedly better half lists Madonna along with Mick Jagger and Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music as people who'd be "nightmare" dinner guests.
Yes, Detroit's Kid Rock is scheduled to guest-star on ex-fiancee's Pam Anderson's "Stacked" sitcom Nov. 9 on Fox. But Star magazine reports that on Oct. 26, Anderson showed up at Hotel Roosevelt's Tropicana Bar in L.A. on Rock's arm and things between them went from hot to cold in no time. "Initially they were kissing and snuggling," Star reports. "Then they moved into a heated conversation that was full of angry faces." The source says the duo rushed out at 10:55 p.m., less than an hour after they arrived, bickering as they left. "It looked like Pamela was angry with him, and he was like a little puppy dog, listening but not fighting back!" Bow-wow-wow. Meanwhile, Star reports another troubled couple -- Denise Richards and Charlie Sheen -- has hit a rough patch with plans for a Christmas vow renewal unlikely.
"It seemed like the last form of open discrimination that's OK, and I decided to put on a 350-pound suit myself and live that life for a day and see what happens," the 31-year-old supermodel told AP Radio. "And it was one of the most heartbreaking days of my life."
Banks said she was shocked at the reaction. "I started walking down the street and within 10 seconds, a trio of people looked at me, snickered, looked me right in my eye and started pointing and laughing in my face."
